What have your Player-vs.-Player experiences been like in the Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game? Revised edition (3.5) provides a wealth of interesting character options and has a detailed but fun combat system. I have over 4 years of experience with D&D PvP, dating back to only a few months after 3.5 was released (also when I started playing D&D) and I've had mixed experiences. Mostly I have a positive view of the idea of PvP and I have even developed a fighting tournament that allows almost any kind of character to shine, even in the essential arena combat that it is. Check out the DEEP SEKH thread in the Dungeons & Dragons section to learn more about the tournament or ask questions. You can also visit the DEEP SEKH wiki deepsekh.pbwiki.com to learn more.

I am not a fan of using the D&D rules for a Player versus Player format of play. It seems counter to the intent of the D&D rules. The D&D Miniatures system seems best for pitting two players against each other.
I do like the idea of pitting D&D characters against monsters from the various monster manuals. Ebon Root hosted such an event (I think it was called Monster Mash), and it seemed successful. Winners got to take home the miniature of the monster(s) they "defeated."
